Assistant Chief Executive Officer
Carlos Barrios was appointed as ACERA’s Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Benefits on October 17, 2022. He oversees the administration of the retirement payroll; health, dental, and vision plan benefits; disability benefits; and member services operations. Mr. Barrios provides updates related to health care benefits and retirement operations to the Board of Retirement’s Retiree Committee on a periodic basis.
Mr. Barrios began his career in pension administration at the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association in 1991. He has 30+ years of pension experience in retirement benefits; retiree health insurance; retirement presentations to members, unions, and affiliated county organizations; quality reviews; and member service center operations.
Mr. Barrios has been participating, moderating, and presenting at SACRS and CALAPRS for two decades. He holds a Master of Public Administration degree, a Graduate Certificate in Health Administration, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation.
