Final Compensation Period
The period of highest pay in your career

Your Final Compensation Period (also known as Final Average Salary Period) is the period of highest pay in your career, and it depends on which tier you’re in:

Final Compensation Period

Tiers 1 and 3 Your 26 highest consecutive pay periods or highest consecutive 12 months of pay, depending on payroll cycles (approximately one year).
Tiers 2 and 4 Your highest 78 consecutive pay periods or highest consecutive 36 months of pay, depending on payroll cycles (approximately three years).

Using your payroll records, ACERA will determine your period of highest pay, how much you made in total during that period, and how much you made on average per month during that period.  This monthly average becomes your Highest Average Monthly Salary that is one of the three factors in the retirement formula.
