Planning for your future is important, but
sometimes it's hard to know where or when to start. We
encourage all members planning to retire to attend a Retirement Seminar
to obtain information regarding retirement benefits and
options. All seminars are held at ACERA, located at 475-14th
Street, Oakland, California.
Retirement
Planning Seminars
Pre-Retirement Seminar: Planning
to retire within the next three years? ACERA reviews your retirement
benefit formula, retirement allowance options, retirement application
process, and post retirement benefits, including health, dental,
vision, and death benefits.
Mid-Career Seminar:
Planning to work for Alameda County or an ACERA Participating Employer
until you retire? Ready to start planning? ACERA
will provide you with information about what it means to be a vested
member and to participate in a defined benefit plan. Additional
information is presented on reciprocal retirement agency benefits,
service purchases, re-deposits, termination options, and benefit
formula components.
New Employee Seminar: For ACERA members with less
than 5 years of service. Learn what you need to know to prepare for
retirement, when you are eligible for retirement, what to expect after
retirement, the benefits of ACERA membership, what your otions are if
you leave employment, and more.

- How are benefits affected by
community property laws?

a Court Order?

by ACERA?
- How can I prevent delay of my
retirement benefit payments?
Retiree
Educational Seminars
These Seminars are
offered especially for ACERA's retired members.
Post Retirement
Financial Planning: This educational session is offered in
partnership with the County's Deferred Compensation provider,
Prudential and 1st United Credit Union. The session will help you
understand what it means to monitor investments, review expenses or
investment fees, and make investment allocations. You will also learn a
method for determining the rate you withdraw and spend your financial
assets each year, as well as IRA withdrawal rules and the pitfalls of
waiting to take withdrawals from retirement accounts. Advice on
specific investments will NOT be provided.

Medicare
Transition: ACERA will explain and assist you with the
transition from your ACERA pre-Medicare medical plan into one of the
Medicare medical plans offered by ACERA. Members who will be turning
age 65 within 60 days prior to the seminar will receive an invitation
to attend this informative session and learn more about ACERA’s
Medicare mandate and what plan choices are available to them. Specific
Medicare enrollment materials will be provided to attendees during this
seminar.
