ACERA Online Investment Information Section

The members of the ACERA Board of Retirement are responsible for diversifying the investment assets of the system.  They ensure that investments are made in different types of securities, in different companies and in different regions of the world, and that assets are managed by professional investment managers.

To accomplish these tasks, the Board works with an investment consulting firm to establish its Investment Plan and Policy. The Board prepares Investment Manager Guidelines to ensure that assets are invested with care. The Board also closely monitors its investment managers to make sure they are in compliance with Board policies and that they are meeting the Boards long-term investment performance objectives.

Funding for future retirement benefits calls for a long-term outlook. As a result, the Board of Retirement Investment Policy has an appropriately long-term horizon. The Board cannot guarantee the performance of investments, especially over short-term periods. However, one of the important things to remember about the retirement plan is that it is a defined benefit plan. This means that regardless of the return on investments, the retirement benefit will not decrease.

ACERA prepares two annual financial reports, the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, CAFR, and a condensed annual report that is provided to all members.  ACERA also prepares Monthly Investment  Performance Report and a Quarterly Investment Report.
