Working After Retirement

Generally working after retirement will not affect your benefit, however there are several factors to keep in mind.

  • You may work for any employer other than Alameda County or an ACERA Member District for any amount of time that suits you, it will not adversely affect your ACERA retirement allowance in any way.

  • You may work for the County or an ACERA Member District after retirement for a total of 120 working days, (960 hours).

  • You also may work for the County as an independent contractor (on a personal services contract) or through a temporary services agency for any amount of time without affecting your ACERA retirement benefit..

While working after retirement does not affect your ACERA benefit, it may affect your Social Security benefits. Contact the Social Security Administration for details on how working after retirement may affect your Social Security benefit.
