COBRA Rights

COBRA RIGHTS FOR RETIREES' DISCONTINUED DEPENDENTS

COBRA mandates that employer's offer the continuation of group health and dental coverage to retiree's dependents due to certain qualifying events. Dependents may enroll for COBRA because coverage is discontinued due to divorce, retiree's death, and dependents whose age exceeds plan limits.

COBRA costs are fully paid by the enrollee(s) at group plan premium costs plus a 2% administrative fee. This coverage, in most cases, extends medical and/or dental coverage up to thirty-six (36) months. When a COBRA situation occurs, enrollment forms may be obtained from ACERA. Payment is to be made on a monthly basis.
