David Safer
Alternate Retired Board Member
Alternate for Member Seat 8 Term Expires December 31, 2013
David
Safer currently serves on the ACERA Board of Retirement as the elected
alternate retired member.
He was first elected in 1998 while working in the Office of the Alameda
County Public Defender. He served two terms until the end of
2003. In 2002, he proudly served as Chairman of the ACERA
Board of Retirement. Mr. Safer retired in 2004 after more than 33 years of service in the Public Defender’s Office. In 2005, he was elected to the Retired Member Seat, replacing the outgoing Charles Harrington. During this three year term, Mr. Safer served as Chair of the Retiree’s Committee. He has also been a member of every ACERA committee over the past eleven years. While on the ACERA Board, Mr. Safer earned Certificates of Achievement in Public Plan Policy: Employee Pensions and Employee Health. He also completed the Pension Funds and Money Management Program at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Safer has served as the Parliamentarian to the State Association of County Retirement Systems (SACRS), and regularly attends their trustee roundtables and educational conferences. Mr. Safer received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin, served six years in the Coast Guard Reserve, and worked as a claims adjuster for Safeco Insurance in Oakland before joining the Public Defender’s Office. He has been married to Lola Safer for over 40 years and has two adult daughters and five grandchildren. |
